Guatemalan-born, of Belizian-German descent, Jennifer Lisette Lopez is currently a Resident Choreographer for the Manhattan-based the Harmony Theatre Company. Beginning in January 2007, she is offering her amazing dance workshop, "Afro-Groove," at Bridge for Dance on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
She received her B.A. from Columbia University, and has studied, choreographed, and performed various forms of dance all over the world, including in France, Ireland, and Haiti.
In her Master Class, "Afro-Groove,” she will teach students fundamentals of Afro- based dance forms (Haitian, Yoruba, Congolese, and Senegalais), accompanied with deep stretches and strengthening exercises. Students will find the “tribal beat” of their own bodies, and finish the class with a choreographed combination that will integrate these movements.
The choreography will be a melding of the undulation and release of traditional Afro- movements with the grace, strength, and balance of Modern and Jazz. Work from her last class was featured in the February 3, 2007 installment of Bridge for Dance's Uptown Performance Series.
SUNDAYS, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Beginning April 4, 2007 $15 per Class
