Russell Barnes
Tonton Julian (Once on This Island)

Russell Barnes began dancing and singing at the age of ten in Norfolk, Virginia.  
He had eighteen years of training in musical theatre and three years of touring
experience with the Ava-Teri Dance Theater in Washington, D.C., where he
received his BFA in Theatre Arts from Howard University.  He has co-starred
with the likes of Ms. Theresa Merritt in
Everybody Loves Opal, Al "Grandpa
Monster" Lewis in
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Ms. Joanne
Worley in
They're Playing Our Song.  Some of Russell's favorite roles include "Lion"
in
The Wiz, "Jim" in Big River, and "The Viper" in Ain't Misbehavin' starring Ms. Ruth
Brown.  Most recently, Russell played opposite Ms. Carol Kane at the 2005
Tribeca Theatre Festival with the National Theatre Workshop (NTWH) for the
Handicapped.  He has been a member of the NTWH Touring Cabaret and Acting
Company since 1998.  His television appearances include
Law & Order and Ed.  An
experienced teaching artist, Russell currently works with Stages of Learning.
